Dundee drivers warned of multiple roadworks next week

Motorists across Dundee are set to be frustrated by a spate of roadworks in the city next week.

Traffic on Lochee Road, Myrekirk Road and Dykes of Gray Road will face disruption as work starts at the sites from Monday just as many people are returning to work and schools following the end of the Easter holidays.

The Lochee Road project will see a southbound section of the route between Dudhope Terrace and Marketgait sealed off to traffic. Resurfacing is expected to take three weeks, with traffic diverted via Dudhope Terrace, Infirmary Brae, Barrack Road and Constitution Road.

For the third week of the work, the north end of Polepark Road will be closed at Lochee Road. However, northbound traffic will be unaffected and access into side streets to the south will be maintained.

Further works are also set to start on Myrekirk Road, between Kingsway and Brunel Road, from next Monday. The route will be closed for five evenings, between 6pm and 6am, for resurfacing, with the timing of the work scheduled in an attempt to minimise disruption.

Through traffic will be diverted via the A90 Kingsway, A923 Coupar Angus road and Gourdie Brae, and the reverse for the duration of the works.

The third series of new roadworks will take place at the Dykes of Gray Road, between the Kingsway and Landmark Hotel. The stretch will be closed for five evenings between 9pm and 6am, with diversions taking vehicles via the A90 Kingsway, A923 Coupar Angus Road, Gourdie Brae and Liff Hospital Road and reverse for the duration of the work.

The closure is required to allow for a road improvement programme to take place.

Meanwhile, the beginning of major roadworks in the east end of Dundee have seen huge tailbacks develop on a major city route.

Vehicles have been backed along Dock Street during the evening rush hour as work to create a new junction at Broughty Ferry Road and Greendykes Road continues.

Dundee’s city development convener has asked for drivers to remain patient during the roadworks and to plan their journey in advance.

Will Dawson said: ”If possible drivers should find an alternative route or allow extra time for their journey. Closing any road, especially an arterial one, will have an impact but I just ask people to be patient and plan their journey ahead.”
