A celebrated American musician who has performed in over 3000 concerts including at the White House and the Hollywood Bowl is helping a group of Dundee pupils to prepare for a Caird Hall concert.
Over the past few days famed tuba soloist Patrick Sheridan has imparted expert advice to the young members of the city council’s senior wind ensemble, ahead of their final piece this evening, which is part of the Dundee City Council schools arts festival.
With over two decades of experience in the music industry and having played in hundreds of professional orchestras, military bands and chamber ensembles around the world, the Dundee musicians are in safe hands with Mr Sheridan. He delivered a special series of masterclass workshops to over 80 pupils, allowing them to learn new skills and techniques. He will also take to the stage to perform alongside the ensemble tonight.
Mr Sheridan, a member of the music faculty at the University of California, saw his career in music take off at the age of just 20 when he played in the The President’s Own United States Marine Band. During his military service he entertained audiences across the US as one of the band’s primary soloists.
His tutorial time in the city was funded by Creative Scotland. As part of the festival, concerts are being staged at the Caird Hall tonight and tomorrow at 7.30pm. Wednesday’s performances will include music from the Junior String Orchestra, Concert Band and Schools’ Symphony Orchestra.
Tickets are available for £5 (£3 concessions) at the door. There are also two-night tickets at £7 (£4).
