Dundee United fans are travelling across the globe to make sure they see their team take on Ross County in the Scottish Cup final.

One supporter has made a 10,500-mile trip from her home in Australia to watch her favourite team.

It took Kerry-Ann Deuchar 42 hours to travel from the rural village of Wood Wood in Victoria.

The former Harris Academy pupil left Scotland in August to go backpacking and had no plans to return this year.

But the 29-year-old from Birkhill knew she had to make the gruelling and expensive trip home once she heard of the Tangerines’ success.

She told The Courier, “I have always been crazy about Dundee United since I was a little girl.

“I wasn’t planning to come back, but when I heard they had got to the final there was no way I could miss it.”

She added, “I used to have a season ticket and would go to all the games so I just had to be at the final.True Arab”All my friends think I am mad but I am a true Arab and it had to be done.”

Kerry-Ann, who worked for Dundee College and the Scottish Society for Autism, took a six-hour coach trip to Melbourne and then caught a connecting flight to the UK.

She arrived back on Thursday and is preparing for the game with her mum Fay and dad Stuart.

She said, “I can’t wait for Saturday. My dad has organised a bus to take us down. A lot of my pals are going, even those who don’t follow football.

“It will be a brilliant day I just hope we win!”

Kerry-Ann remembers when United won the tournament in 1994 and hopes Peter Houston’s team can repeat that success.

She said, “I was at the game dressed up in the shirt and scarf and with a Tangerine wig on. I can still clearly remember Craig Brewster scoring the winning goal.

“It was one of the best days ever and afterwards you just wanted a final every year.”

Another fan will be flying into Edinburgh from Dubai today, completing a 3500-mile trip.

Dundee man Gordon Taylor (46) works around the world for an offshore oil company and is rarely in Scotland other than to visit family and friends.

When he heard his beloved Tangerines had progressed to the Hampden showpiece he was stationed in Iran, but was straight on the phone to his brother Cameron (43) in Invergowrie to book tickets.Fans for 30 yearsThe pair have been fans for over 30 years and were introduced to the club by their father.

Despite working in the Middle East, Gordon reorganised holiday plans at short notice and booked the expensive flight home.

Cameron said, “He only really ever comes home to see our kids and our mum.

“He wasn’t sure if he would make it back in time but his flight has been confirmed now and he is flying into Edinburgh.”

The brothers will be joined at the match by Cameron’s wife Elaine, who works at Dens Road Primary School, and the couple’s children Catriona (12) and Euan (9), who attend Invergowrie Primary.

The family will make a day of the trip, with Elaine packing a picnic to enjoy before the game kicks off.

Cameron said, “Both my brother and I are big Dundee United fans and used to go games together with my dad when we were kids.

“I can remember my first match at Tannadice when we were playing Hearts and I was in the Shed End at seven years old.”

He added, “I don’t get to as many games as I would like to now but I’m looking forward to the cup final.”
