Menzieshill High School faces closure as part of a radical shake-up of Dundee schools.
Dundee City Council is proposing to close Menzieshill and move its pupils to the new Harris Academy building on Perth Road.
A proposal will be put before the council’s education committee on Monday.
It is a move which is sure to cause controversy in the school’s catchment area.
Education director Michael Wood said today that the proposed move is something that is being forced upon the council as Menzieshill is at less than half full capacity. It has only 487 pupils at the school this year, 48% of its full occupancy level.
Mr Wood stressed that there would be no compulsory redundancies and all staff at Menzieshill would be moved to other positions, although not necessarily at Harris.
He said the council would also be looking at voluntary redundancy and retirement packages as part of the move.
Education convener councillor Stewart Hunter said it was a sad decision to have to make for him personally as a former pupil of the school.
The council is also proposing to merge three primary schools and a nursery into one single campus at the eastern end of the city, which is dependent on funding from the Scottish Futures Trust.
