Thousands of people have flocked to Camperdown Park for the 2015 Dundee Flower and Food Festival including one man who travelled more than 100 miles to win a prize for his scotch broth.

Lord Provost Bob Duncan officially opened the vast three-day event, which expected to attract more than 25,000 visitors.

The festival will play host to demonstrations by celebrity foodies including Masterchef host Gregg Wallace, flamboyant chef Tony Singh and garden expert Martin Fish a huge range of produce of all types, live music and theatre.

Shona Leckie, from Monifieth, won the prize for the best Dundee cake, while Ian Beattie, from Ayr, took top spot with his scotch broth.

Tents full of food, from fruit and vegetables to pancakes and burgers, are designed to highlight the remarkable range of produce on offer in Scotland.

“It is a real showcase of what Scotland can offer in terms of produce, and it can bring new things to the city.

“We met our fudge suppliers at the Dundee Flower and Food Festival.

“They didn’t have any outlets in the area, so we struck a deal to sell their beautiful, handmade fudge in our shop.

“People come from far and wide to buy it.

“On top of the food, you get lots of local young dancers and musicians who play throughout the weekend.”
