A number of Dundee pubs and clubs have been granted permission to stay open later by Dundee City Council.

Changes to the council’s policy have opened the floodgates to premises applying to the licensing committee for later licences.

According to the new rules, pubs can now close at 1am, venues with entertainment 2am and nightclubs can stay open until 3am.

Establishments successfully granted 1am extensions included Bar Leo in Broughty Ferry, the Discovery Heritage Centre, Ladywell Tavern, Laings, Old Bank Bar, Post Office Bar, Braes, Bush Bar, the Globe, the Maltman, Trades House and Whites Bar.

‘Hybrid’ premises offering some entertainment such as Eagle Coaching Inn, Legends and the Social were granted 2am licences, while Deja Vu and Liquid nightclubs were granted 3am licences.

No 25 in South Tay Street promised to install double glazing worth about £6,000 on an objector’s windows so it could gain its 3am licence.

The West House and the Mercantile’s applications were deferred.

Also at the licensing committee, the owners of the Liquor Warehouse on Provost Road were given a warning after being found with fake duty vodka the licence holder Shahbaz Akhtar admitted buying off a man who came in offering 12 bottles of Glen’s Vodka for sale.
