Two people have died after fire broke out in a Dundee flat early this morning.
Emergency services were called to Park Avenue,in the city’s Stobswell area, at around 7am.
Eye-witnesses reported a woman and man being pulled from the building and being given emergency treatment.
Police later confirmed they had died.
Park Avenue remains closed as a full investigation gets under way.
The fire started just before 7am and police and firefighters remain at the scene.
Sean Rowan (below) said he was woken by a loud “creaking noise”.
The 25-year-old said: “I got up and put on the light and saw a big black mark and white smoke.
“I got my laptop, dad’s dog and got out of the room.”
After calling 999 he and his flatmate went outside to wait for the emergency services.
Four crews arrived and pulled a woman from the top-floor flat. They performed CPR outside.
“It was pretty graphic,” said Sean.”She looked a young, skinny woman but I didn’t see her face.”
The flat’s second occupant was pulled from the flat later.
Resident Henry Stewart (below) said police evacuated the building at 7.30am.
He said he saw one man receive CPR outside the building.
“He looked pretty bad,” he said.”Apparently a woman was pulled out earlier.”
He added: “The lad that lives above me woke up and saw the smoke and a big black mark on the ceiling and so he called the fire brigade.
“I don’t know how long it had been going to do that.”

A Police Scotland spokesman said: “Police can confirm that two people have sadly died as a result of the fire. No further details are available at this time, and next of kin have not been made aware.
“Inquiries are continuing, and a joint investigation with the Scottish Fire and Rescue service has been launched. A cordon will remain in place while inquiries continue.” For more on this story, see Friday’s Courier.
