Delegates from all over Scotland have gathered in Dundee for the 86th annual STUC Women’s Conference in the Caird Hall.
Women are using the two-day conference to speak up for those most affected by austerity, and they also outlined many different campaigns on equality and social justice.
Speakers included MSP Jenny Marra, who was pleased to see the conference back in Dundee, which has a strong history of female activism.
She said: “43 years after the Equal Pay Act there is still a gender pay gap. On average women earn 15% less than their male counterparts.
“Women are also more likely to be under employed and the issue of zero-hour contracts are a particular problem for women.
“These contacts are pernicious as they don’t allow people to plan and save or even make day to day plans because they are stuck waiting for the phone to ring.
“I’ll be pushing the Scottish Government in the Procurement Bill to make sure government contracts don’t go to companies using zero hours contracts.”
The conference started on Monday and continues today.
