Dundee woman saves boyfriend’s life after Magaluf stabbing

A Dundee woman has told how she “saved her boyfriend’s life” in a Magaluf knife attack.

Susan Blyth has been working on the Mediterranean party island of Mallorca for the past six months.

The 24-year-old, from Charleston, had planned to return to the UK on Sunday but put all plans on hold after her partner, Dan Inman, was stabbed in a frenzied early morning disturbance.

She said: “It was the best time of my life before the worst night of my life.”

It was only by chance the couple were out at all, because Dan, 34, had planned to run his own bar on Halloween but was thwarted by bad weather.

The pair were with a group of friends on a terrace on Magaluf’s main strip when the chaos began at about 4am.

Susan said: “This guy just came up out of nowhere and said something to Dan. Dan didn’t know what he’d said and the guy pulled him out into the road.

“Dan’s quite tall and he bent down so he could hear what the guy was saying. The guy pulled a knife out of his pocket, stabbed Dan and dragged the knife across his back. It was awful, it was so quick.

“I’ve never seen anything like it in my life his back was just open and there was blood pouring out, it was horrible.”

Susan said Dan’s friend Sam ran after the knifeman and grabbed his shoulder but was stabbed seven times himself.

While ambulances raced up the street towards Sam, Susan ordered Dan to stay still and she tried to stem the flow of blood from his 3.5in-deep wound. She then helped ambulance staff as they helped Dan.

She said the knifeman slashed wildly at other revellers and cut more people before police were able to handcuff him.

She added: “Everyone’s said: ‘I can’t believe how cool you were’. Dan keeps thanking me, saying I saved his life.

“I’ve no idea how I managed it. I’ve never done any first aid. I can’t even handle silly little things like small cuts.

“But it all changes when somebody you care about is in trouble.”

Susan has spent the days since Halloween at Dan’s bedside and the couple will return to London when he is well enough to travel.
