Police in Dundee have launched a major investigation after a man was found with head injuries at a city supermarket.

The man was found at the recycling facilities on Afton Way, the road leading into Morrisons supermarker near Forfar Road, around 7am.

It is understood a delivery driver spotted the man lying in a pool of his own blood.

Police have closed part of the road and erected a blue tent so forensics officers can search for evidence.

Police have not confirmed the extent of the man’s injuries, but they have issued a description of him as they seek information.

A Police Scotland spokesman said: “The unidentified man was discovered at about 7am with a head injury. Enquiries are ongoing to identify the man and we would ask the public to assist in this matter.

“He is described as aged late 30s to early 40s, white, of stocky build, with short dark hair, wearing a royal blue Adidas jacket with a white zip and three white stripes along the shoulders and sleeves, dark blue jeans with fabric belt and black leather boots.

“He has the letters ‘DFC’ tattooed on his right ankle, a leaf on his right upper arm and a tattoo of a ship on his left forearm.”

Anyone with any information that could help identify this man is asked tocall Police Scotland on 101.

Most shoppers appeared oblivious to the police activity on Friday morning while staff in the store only knew an injured man had been found.
