Devoted Dundee United fans put in the hours to make sure they secured a ticket for next week’s Europa League clash in Poland.

Some supporters queued through the night at the Dundee United ticket office to snap up a place at the match against Slask Wroclaw.

The 476 allocated tickets went on sale at 9am on Thursday to season ticket holders on a strictly first come, first served basis.

First in line was Lawrence Cullen (47), who said, “I have been here since 7.30pm last night. I have pre-booked flights and accommodation, so I wanted to be here early to make sure.”

Grigor Grant (46) arrived just after 2am.

“I have supported them for years so I wanted to be there,” he said. ” I think it will probably be a draw and it will be a great atmosphere.”

IT consultant Steve Kay (34), who arrived at 5.15am, said, “I thought there would be a bigger queue, so I came down early in case.

“I was in Greece last year and it was a really good. I think there will be hundreds of people travelling there without tickets to support the team.”

Stuart Monteith travelled up from Stranraer on Wednesday.

“I stayed in a youth hostel last night and got here about 7am,” the 18-year-old student said, adding, “It will be the first time I have seen them in Europe.”

Isabel Henderson (52) came prepared with an umbrella and camping chair.

“I have supported them since I was five, so I really wanted to get tickets. I just want to be there.”

Lecturer Duncan Munro (38) said, “I’ve been here since 6.30am. I have already spent money on flights and staying there, so I thought I had better get tickets too.”

The lucky fans attending the July 14 match also had to provide passport details when buying their ticket, which will then be verified by the Polish police when entering the stadium.

The return leg is at Tannadice on July 21.
