A vehicle and equipment worth £15,000 have been stolen from a Dundee car care business.
Thieves targeted the Diamond Wheels van left in Baird Avenue in Dryburgh Industrial Estate between 5pm and 6pm on Friday. It had been parked on the street outside the firm’s new base to allow an old container unit to be removed to free up space.
The Mercedes Sprinter is kitted out to deal with all forms of alloy wheel refurbishment and has sophisticated equipment to allow work at the roadside.
It was carrying a Honda generator, spray gun, wheel brace and balancer, a quantity of paint, car jacks, an axle stand and various tools when it was stolen.
A company spokesman said the firm, owned by businessman Paul Marr, was still trading using its other van. However, he said the theft was a problem the business could well do without and an insurance claim would have to be made to recover the firm’s losses.
“At the moment with the motor trade a bit quiet and the business being reorganised it is a pain but they will keep working hard,” he said.
“The business has relocated from Perth and the last thing they needed to do was get the container moved. That’s why the van was in the street.”
The police are making inquiries and have visited other local businesses to see if their private CCTV images can shed any light.
Detective Inspector Gary Ogilvie of Dundee CID said the theft of such a vehicle would have a serious impact on the owner’s business.
He added it was vital that anyone who saw suspicious activity near the van, or who knows its current whereabouts, came forward.
Anyone with information about the theft should call the police on 0300 111 2222 or speak to any officer.
