A Dundee woman has told of how she is terrified to live in her flat after thieves broke in and stole £900 worth of goods.
Jude Hendry, 31, had her 55-inch smart TV, GHD straighteners and £70 of cash taken from her home on Strathmartine Road on Friday afternoon.
It is believed the break-in happened at around 3.30pm, but Jude only found out what had happened when she returned from work at 1.45am to find her front door smashed.
The marketing assistant and part-time barmaid said she is planning to move as she no longer feels safe in the area.
Jude said: “I got home from my bar job at around 1.45 on Monday and saw that my front door had been smashed.
“The police had already been there and put a lock on it.
“My neighbours had heard the break-in at around 3.30pm and had called the police, although at the time they didn’t realise it was my flat.
“Nothing apart from the door was damaged and it didn’t look like they’d been searching for long.
“It looked like they knew exactly what they were looking for.
“That scares me because maybe they’d been watching my flat for a while, although I always keep the curtains shut.
“My TV cost £700, the straighteners were £130 and the £70 was from a piggybank where I put my tips from the bar.
“Luckily I had home insurance and I’ll be able to replace my things I would advise everybody to get insured.”
Jude explained that she now feels scared to leave her house empty while she is at work.
She is planning to leave her rented home as soon as possible.
Jude added: “I can’t live my life in fear and be afraid to go to work, so I’m going to move.
“It’s the first time something like this has happened to me thankfully my cats were OK.”
Police Scotland said they were investigating the incident.
A spokeswoman said: “We are aware and it is under inquiry. Anyone with any information can contact Police Scotland on 101.”
