Plans to introduce fortnightly bin collections in Dundee to meet recycling targets are still in the pipeline despite details of the scheme not yet being published.
Craig Melville, convener of the environment committee, announced the policy six weeks ago but said a detailed report will be outlined “in due course”.
Mr Melville said he is still committed to the “huge challenge” of more than doubling the city’s recycling rates to 70% over a number of years but said it had to be the right plan.
Richard McCready, Labour’s environment spokesman, expressed surprise that the SNP-led administration have not yet outlined the details.
He said: “These changes will impact on every household and, therefore, before they are implemented, there needs to be the widest possible consultation so that councillors can be clear about the views of the workforce, trade unions and the people of Dundee.”
Mr McCready said while he is committed to the environment, he is concerned about whether or not the policy suits tenements and the risk of increased fly-tipping because of recycling centre changes.
