A woman was taken to Ninewells Hospital with suspected spinal and neck injuries after the car she was driving slid in snowy conditions and struck a wall on the outskirts of Dundee last night.

The 30-year-old woman and her 36-year-old male passenger were trapped and the roof of the VW Passatt had to be cut off by firefighters to allow the safe removal of the casualties.

The accident happened at about 7.30pm on the snow-covered Burnside of Duntrune to Kellas Road, just north of the Ballumbie Golf Course near to Duntrune House.

Two ambulances attended, along with several police vehicles and firefighters in two appliances from Kingsway fire station.

Red Watch manager Chris Bonnar said: “The safest way to get them out was to cut the roof off the car and remove them after stabilising them on a long board.

“We used hydraulic cutting tools to get the roof off, which took around half an hour.

“Two persons were trapped and complaining of neck and spinal injuries. Both were conscious and were speaking to the paramedics.”

There was no more information on the man’s condition.

Police sealed off the road at Duntrune House and the junction with Kellas Road and remained at the scene until the car was removed.
