A Dundee sheriff has switched his judging talents from the bench to the stage.
Richard Davidson was at the Deja Vu nightclub in the city centre as one of a panel of judges in the final of the Tay’s Got Talent contest on Sunday.
The legal expert has no form for judging talent contests and admitted that it was his first time on such a panel.
However, he did make a plea for his experience to be taken in to consideration.
“I was a young person myself once and I have got two teenagers back at home,” Sheriff Davidson said.
Declining to give his age, the self-confessed Adele and Kaiser Chiefs fan gave an indication of his generation by pointing out that Beatles hit Love Me Do was released when he was celebrating his 15th birthday.
The sheriff said he had good reasons to accept publican Jimmy Marr’s invitation to join the judging panel of the competition for young people, adding, “Most of my customers are aged 16 to 25 and it is important to stay in touch.
“It is important that young folk have outlets for their energies that are positive rather than negative and that is why I think this is such a great competition.”
Importantly for a man who spends his working days doling out sentences to the city’s criminals, the contest displayed the good side of local young people.
“It is really nice to be reminded, given some of the folk I have to deal with, that there are a lot of talented young people in the city,” he said. “This is a great city and it is on the way up.”
