A robot has discovered that working after reaching retirement age is not just for humans.

RoboX has been welcoming visitors to Sensation, the science centre in Dundee, since 2005. Sadly, age was catching up with him and it looked as if he might be destined for the scrap heap. But he has found a new lease of life with the computing department at Dundee University.

RoboX was built by Swiss firm Bluebotics. He was given the task of roaming around the centre greeting people.

After becoming the longest working robot of his kind, RoboX’s parts were wearing out.

Bits of him were sent to Switzerland to see if he could be repaired but the cost was too great and a deal was done to transfer him to the university.

He was visited on Monday by his old boss Louise Smith, who said: ”It’s wonderful to think that RoboX will go on to inspire Dundee’s next generation of computer programmers.”
