Droves of competitors and spectators have made for a successful St Andrews Highland Games.
There were so many people taking part that competitions began at 10.30am, ahead of the official start of the gathering at 1pm.
Good weather also brought folk out in their numbers to watch the spectacle in Station Park.
Games secretary Ian Grieve told The Courier, “We had a massive entry for the heavy events, with 12 competitors from all over the world.”
There were similarly impressive entry levels in all other events, which included Highland dancing, piping, cycling, athletics and the tug o’ war, except for the junior games which were to be held for the first time but were cancelled due to a lack of support.
Mr Grieve added, “We had a good turnout of spectators and the weather has held up.
“After two poor years we really needed a good year.”
The City of St Andrews Pipe Band opened the games, which, being established in 1984, are one of the youngest on the circuit.
