Three teenagers have been charged with wilful fireraising following the massive blaze which swept through an empty Dunfermline town centre shop at the weekend.
Dunfermline police confirmed yesterday that three male youths two aged 16 and one aged 15 had been traced over the fire in the disused Thomsons World of Furniture store and warehouse on Bruce Street on Sunday evening.
Detective Inspector David McLaren said the three youths had been charged in relation to wilful fireraising and would be appearing at Dunfermline Sheriff Court on September 8.
Detective Inspector McLaren thanked the public for their help in the police investigation.
Meanwhile Fife Council officers have been out inspecting the area around the complex.
The footpath and road around the site at Winterthur Lane has been fenced off to ensure there is no danger to passing pedestrians and motorists.
Scott Young, lead officer for building standards and safety with Fife Council, said the local authority had held a meeting with the fire brigade and Tesco surveyors.
The council’s remit was to remove all loose and dangerous debris from the roof and make the area around the building safe.
The path and road would reopen only once it was made safe.
The site is earmarked for a new 60,000 sq ft Tesco store.
Yesterday a spokesman said, “In due course we will understand the impact of the fire.
“We continue to be focused on bringing a new store to Dunfermline town centre.”
