Group out to stop planned wind farm near Largoward

Stop Turbines At Cameron, Kinaldy (STACK) is fighting proposals to build five turbines near Largoward.

STACK spokesman Dr David King said, “The rural community near to the site and beyond has the prospect of their residential and visual amenity being degraded, their greatest asset, and their property being devalued as the 2km separation, advised by government, is ignored.”

Dr King is worried about noise from the turbines. He highlighted Achany Wind Farm at Rosehall, operated by Scottish and Southern Electricity in Sutherland, which Highland Council ordered be temporarily shut down earlier this month, following numerous complaints about noise.

He said, “Scottish and Southern failed to fit mitigation devices to the blades and to measure noise levels at two affected properties, one of which was 2km from the turbines.”

A spokesman for West Coast Energy said it had given a commitment to Dr King and other nearby residents to work through any issues raised and provide them with information needed to come a balanced view.

He said, “At our forthcoming exhibitions we intend to display a range of material that will show the wind farm from a number of agreed viewpoints both in the immediate locality and across north-east Fife, which will include several accurate photo montages of the site.

“We would like to encourage all members of the public to come to our exhibitions to see these, and receive full and accurate information on the proposed site.”

Dates for the exhibitions have yet to be released.
