Civilian staff at RAF Leuchars have been told their jobs are at risk, The Courier has learned.

Six chefs and two cleaners who work for private contractor ISS UK Ltd have been threatened with redundancy.

The firm, which employs 52 staff at the air force base, is carrying out a nationwide review.

A 30-day consultation period began on Monday, according to an ISS spokesman.

One worker, who asked not to be named, said: ”It’s come right out of the blue. My head’s just up in the air at the moment. It’s happened so fast.

”In the material that I’ve seen, five out of the six chef posts are at risk and the one post that they’re retaining is on reduced hours.

”Basically, the six chefs have been told they could be made redundant and have to apply for the post that’s left. There’s also two cleaners affected.”

The employee described the decision as ”a kick in the teeth for every member of staff there.”

A spokesman for ISS UK Ltd suggested the company could ”redeploy” some staff, if their jobs are made redundant.

”As part of an RAF-wide review of operation and services ISS delivers to the CRL contract, ISS is currently conducting a 30-day consultation with all our employees at RAF Leuchars and a number of positions are at risk of redundancy through the restructure of our service delivery on the station,” he told The Courier.
