Rising fuel costs taking toll on rural pockets

Rising fuel prices are taking their toll on motorists in rural parts of Fife who have little choice but to travel by car.

Yesterday, as The Courier continued its campaign for fairer prices, drivers in Colinsburgh told how paying more at the pumps was affecting their lives.

Unemployed James Raybould, of Anstruther, said, “I’ve been trying to cut down on the journeys I make, which the government will say is better for the environment.

“Rather than jumping into the car, I walk where I can. The price of fuel is disgusting, there’s no two ways about it.

Leona Stewart, also of Anstruther, drives back and forth regularly to her horse which is stabled in Colinsburgh.

She told the Courier, “I filled my car up last Monday and it was just under £80.”

After making just a few trips in Fife and driving to Colinsburgh everyday, she was filling up again yesterday just a week later.

She said, “It is ridiculous how the price keeps going up.”

Teacher Diane Kyle, of Carnbee, said she was paying almost £60 to fill up her car every 10 to 14 days.If you want to support the Courier’s call for a fuel duty regulator, click here to add your name to our petition.
