Tributes have been paid to a young father who died in an incident in Burntisland at the weekend.
Barry McLean’s family said they were devastated by his death on Saturday which followed an incident at a flat in Abbots View.
On Monday 26-year-old Sean Kitchener, of Abbots View, appeared in private at Kirkcaldy Sheriff Court on a petition alleging Mr McLean’s murder.
He made no plea or declaration and was remanded in custody pending further inquiries.
Kitchener also faced charges of assault, assault by threats and assault by injury.
Mr McLean was injured in a flat he was visiting with friends in Abbots View on Saturday night. He died later in hospital.
He leaves behind his parents Alan and Petrina, partner Jennifer and son Connor, believed to be around six months old.
He also had a brother Craig and a sister Lisa.’Family values’In a statement released through Fife Police Mr McLean’s parents described him as “a charismatic, lovely family man”
“Barry was exceptionally close to his parents, brother and sister and was a devoted partner and father,” they said.
“He was an outgoing and hard-working lad with strong family values. He will be deeply missed as a son, grandson, brother, nephew, partner, father and friend.”
A former pupil at Balwearie High School in Kirkcaldy, 27-year-old Mr McLean was well-known and liked within the Burntisland community where he delivered milk as a teenager.
His death has led to an outpouring of grief in the town where he enjoyed boxing and working out at the local gym.
Countless tributes have been left to him on Facebook via a page called Burntisland Legends, which is dedicated to local people who have died.
People who knew Mr McLean have described the news as heartbreaking and devastating, with one saying the community was in shock and mourning.
Another said he had been taken too young, and added, “This has shaken the whole town up.”
