Pop Idol star Michelle McManus became the latest celebrity to drop into a Fife castle as cameras roll.

The singer and broadcaster plays a cameo role in action-packed medieval romp The Fairy Flag, which is being shot at Balgonie Castle, near Glenrothes.

She features in the only present-day scene in the fantasy movie, which is set in the late 1500s, playing a tour guide talking about the fairy flag.

Comedian Ross Noble earlier surprised the crew by paying an unexpected visit to the castle, one of several locations across Scotland for what has been billed the biggest independent Scottish film in 20 years.

Directed by Dunfermline-born David Izatt and starring Chris Capaldi and Jade Yourell, The Fairy Flag recounts the epic romance behind the flag on display at Dunvegan Castle on the Isle of Skye.

The flag is a treasured heirloom of the Clan Macleod and legend has it that it was given to the infant child of the clan chief by his departing fairy lover.

Balgonie Castle is being used for internal scenes.
