Dysart hoping to cash in after starring role in Outlander

A Fife town is hoping to cash in on its starring role in a hit television show.

Members of Dysart Community Council say they are investigating ways of attracting more tourists to the area after appearing in the US series Outlander.

Dysart’s picturesque harbour was one of the many Fife locations used in the production of the drama’s second series, which took place last summer.

“We want to try and get Dysart on the tourist trail,” said Eunice Cameron, chairwoman of the community council.

“We want to get people in to the village and show that we’re not just a point on the coastal path. Outlander’s success has had huge positives for places in Fife.

“Culross and Falkland have seen visitor numbers go up between 9 and 12% since the Outlander thing happened and we want to get that going here.”

Modern Dysart was transformed into 18th-Century Le Havre when production crews descended on the town’s harbour last June.

The show, which tells the tale of married nurse Claire Randall who is swept back in time to 1740s Scotland, is a huge hit throughout the world, particularly in the US.

It stars Caitriona Balfe as Claire and Scots actor Sam Heughan as Jamie Fraser.

The second series will be broadcast in the spring on Amazon Prime.

“There is so much history about Dysart so we should be showing it off a bit,” she added.
