St Andrews students have voted their university the best in the country, according to the results of the National Student Survey.

The Fife university is ranked the top multi-faculty university in Scotland and joint second in the UK in the 2013 study.

St Andrews is up seven places on last year’s survey and one place behind Bath University, which leads this year’s survey with a student satisfaction level of 94%. St Andrews shares top spot in Scotland with the Open University.

With 93% of students at St Andrews declaring themselves satisfied or very satisfied with the overall quality of their education, the Fife institution has nudged ahead of Cambridge (fourth) and Oxford (fifth) and is the onlyScottish university in the top 10.

Linda Gibson, from Dundee, took part in the NSS and graduated from St Andrews this summer.

“Coming to St Andrews was the best decision of my life and has provided me with many wonderful and exciting opportunities,” she said.

Meanwhile, St Andrews vice-principal and proctor, Professor Lorna Milne, said: “These results are a welcome and continuing vote of confidence in the quality of our teaching staff and the close contact they have with our students in St Andrews.

“I’m very proud of the standards our students achieve and it is gratifying to see them rate their university equally highly.”
