Tribute has been paid to Cupar businessman William Eric Dall, who has died suddenly aged 61.

Mr Dall, owner of the J&T Rodger Meal Shop in Crossgate, Cupar, since June 1999, died on Saturday as he was on his way home from spending the day with his son, Fraser, at the Kinross Show and Cowdenbeath Racewall.

Raised at Easter Balgeddie Farm, near Kinnesswood, he attended Portmoak School, Kinross High School and Perth High School before studying agriculture at Elmwood College in Cupar.

He worked for many years as a sales rep for Scottish Agricultural Industries. It was an ambition of his to have his own business and in 1999 he bought the J&T Rodger Meal shop.

Mr Dall was a former vice-chairman in the Federation of Small Businesses and an active member of the Association of Businesses in Cupar and District (ABCD).

He took a keen interest in local affairs and had strong views on issues such as Cupar’s town centre traffic management and traffic lights.

He helped run the Howe of Fife Mini rugby squad and had a passion for rallying, and for a while was a member of Glenrothes Motorsport Club and took part in the Scottish Rally Championships.

He had recently been working as an off-road driving instructor at Knockhill.

His widow, Marion, said: “Eric chatted to everybody. He was likeable and had time for everybody and would help anybody. He was also a loving husband and father.”

Mrs Dall added that her husband “loved The Courier”. She said: “The Courier was his life He loved The Courier so much we are actually going to bury a copy with him.”

The family say the J&T Rodger business and deliveries will continue as usual. Mr Dall is survived by his wife Marion, son Fraser, step-children Fiona and Stuart, and four step-grandchildren, Callum, Kyle, Amie and Olivia.
