A 26-year-old woman was subjected to a “prolonged sexual attack” in a Kirkcaldy car park on Sunday night.

Police investigating the terrifying incident say they are seeking the public’s help to trace the attempted rapist.

The incident happened at around 10:30pm on Turriff Place when the woman was subjected to a prolonged sexual attack in a car park adjacent to a block of flats.

Officers are keen to trace the male who had engaged her in conversation as she walked on Dallas Drive shortly before the attack.

He told the woman that he lived locally and had been drinking earlier in the evening with a friend named “Alan” at an address in Harris Drive.

Anyone who has any information that can help police trace the suspect is asked to come forward.

The attackeris described as being around 5ft 7ins tall and approximately 30-years-old.

At the time of the attack he was wearing a dark coloured jacket with light coloured jeans and trainers.

Detective Sergeant Samantha Davidson from Kirkcaldy CID, who is leading the enquiry, said: “We are keen to speak with anyone who may have seen them walking together along Aboyne Gardens and through Birnam Road towards Turriff Place.

“This was a horrendous ordeal for anyone to go through and an extensive investigation is now underway in order to trace the suspect as quickly as possible.

“Such incidents are thankfully rare and extra high visibility patrols have been deployed to the area.

“I would ask anyone who recognises the description of the man and may have spoken with him earlier in the evening to contact police on 101 or, alternatively the charity Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.”
