Winter warmer boost anticipated for Glenrothes homes

Households in Glenrothes will receive more information soon about a new scheme that could make up to 17,000 homes warmer this winter.

Fife Council successfully bid to the Scottish Government’s Universal Home Insulation Scheme for £575,000 to run the scheme in partnership with Energy Saving Scotland advice centre (ESSac) and installer Everwarm.

Free insulation measures, like loft and cavity wall insulation, will be offered to private properties and households experiencing difficulties paying their fuel costs will also be able to access anti-fuel poverty support packages through the Energy Assistance Package.

The scheme will be operated on a first come first serve basis and letters detailing how to register an interest in the scheme will be delivered over the next few weeks.

Councillor Fiona Grant, chairwoman of the Glenrothes area committee, urged households to take advantage of the offer.

She said: “I hope this free scheme will help those in the Glenrothes area who need it the most and would urge households to register an interest in the scheme as soon as possible.

“Insulating your home is a great way to save money and with fuel prices on the rise, Glenrothes people could use this opportunity to reduce their bills.”
