Tributes to Fife car crash victim Darren Robertson

Tributes to Fife car crash victim Darren Robertson

Tributes have been paid to a young East Neuk man who died in a road accident at the weekend.

Darren Robertson (19), of St Monans, was killed when the car he was travelling in struck a bridge parapet at the Spalefield crossroads on the B9131 near Anstruther and careered into a field in the early hours of Saturday.

Driver Daniel Brackenbury (20), also of St Monans, sustained extensive injuries and had to be freed from the wreckage. He was airlifted to Ninewells Hospital in Dundee, and last night remained in a critical but stable condition.

A young woman who was a passenger in the back of the car escaped with minor injuries.

Darren, understood to be an only child, was an apprentice joiner and former pupil of Waid Academy.

Friends posted messages of sadness on Darren’s Facebook pages, one urging others to use a photograph of him as their profile picture in his memory.

Local community council leader Andy Anderson said, “Everyone I’ve spoken to has said what a nice lad Darren was.

“This is a dreadful thing to happen at any time of the year. Everyone in the village is really upset and we feel very sorry for the parents of both Darren and Daniel.

“At least there is hope for Daniel, but for Darren’s mum it is going to be a tough time and our thoughts are with her.”

The accident occurred at around 1.30 on Saturday morning. Police said they could not confirm the cause of the accident.

A man who died after being involved in a collision with a car on a west Fife road on Saturday has been named as Grant Sinclair (30), of Crombie.

The incident happened around 7pm between Crombie and the Cairneyhill roundabout.
