Perth is one of just four locations to be featured on a new television show, produced by the Open University and the BBC.
Geographer and adventurer Nicholas Crane will explore four iconic British towns and highlight the advantages they have over their bigger neighbours.
Though Perth is applying for city status, the programme will look at its already important role as the gateway to the Highlands.
With current predictions indicating that by 2030 a staggering 92% of the population will be living in urban areas, the presenter wants to show why the unique make-up and environmental sustainability of towns should be retained.
Town, with Nicholas Crane, starts on BBC2 next Thursday at 9pm, and will also feature the Yorkshire town of Scarborough, Ludlow on the Welsh border and Totnes in Devon.
