Mourners at the funeral of a tragic teenager have been asked to dress in Halloween costumes.

The service for Kayla Brown is to be held in her home village of Stanley next week.

The 17-year-old died suddenly last week as the result of a suspected heart complaint, moments after she had been happily discussing Halloween plans with her family.

Posting online, her mum, Lou Cole, said the dress code at the funeral would be “typical Kayla”.

She urged friends and family to dress in a way that would please her heavy metal fan daughter.

She wrote: “Anyone is welcome to attend and the dress code is typical Kayla gothic, Halloween fancy dress, band shirts, rock or anything you feel comfortable in.

“Hope you can join us to celebrate the life of one of the most beautiful, brightest stars ever.”

The 35-year-old revealed that Kayla’s death was the third tragedy to hit the family.

Ms Cole previously lost two other children in heart-breaking circumstances Heather was stillborn and Meryn died of meningitis at eight weeks old.

In another post she wrote: “Can’t believe it’s already been a week. Never thought I’d have to feel this much pain again. This time I don’t think my heart will ever mend.

“I miss you so much my beautiful angel. I still can’t believe you left us. Love you forever Kayla xxx.”

Kayla, a pupil at Perth Grammar School, was a fan of rock music, her favourite metal band being Black Veil Brides.

She had tickets to their concert in Glasgow on Friday and family and friends are planning to go in her memory.

Kayla was rushed from her home in Stanley to Perth Royal Infirmary and died in hospital.

Lou said: “Despite the paramedics’ and the hospital’s best efforts, it was irreversible. It was so out of the blue. Just minutes before, she was on the settee, drawing and getting excited about Halloween as it was her favourite time of year.

Kayla’s dad Andy Brown, 47, added: “She was loving and caring.

“I know she’s my daughter, but she really was the greatest person I’ve ever known. She was very artistic, so passionate about everything she did and she was so beautiful.”

The family is now raising money for UK charity Cardiac Risk in the Young, through a collection at Kayla’s funeral.
