A Hibernian fan has been banned from all SPFL matches for 18 months after being caught with a firework at a St Johnstone game.
Ryan Milne was spotted in a group of supporters that were suspected of hurling firecrackers and smoke bombs onto the pitch at McDiarmid Park on September 14 last year.
Perth Sheriff Court was told that, although the 20-year-old was not seen throwing anything onto the pitch, officers picked Milne out because he appeared to be “fidgeting” as they approached.
Fiscal depute Robbie Brown said: “This was during a football match at about half time. There had been a number of incidents of smoke bombs and firecrackers being thrown onto the pitch.
“The accused was seen in the group from which they came. He seemed to be nervous and was fidgeting.
“He was searched and a firecracker was found in his possession.”
Solicitor Iain Tweedie, defending, said: “He didn’t have it in his possession when he entered the ground but was given it when he was inside.”
Milne, of Cherry Road, Bonnyrigg, Midlothian, admitted possessing a firework during the St Johnstone against Hibs clash at McDiarmid Park on September 14 last year.
Sheriff Fiona Tait ordered Milne to carry out 210 hours of unpaid work and imposed the football banning order sought by the Crown. Under the terms Milne is specifically banned from attending Hibernian FC games.
