New Glenturret kitten will be the cat’s whiskers

An eight-week-old kitten is set to follow in the paws of one of the world’s most famous distillery cats.

Peat is the latest addition to the team at the Glenturret Distillery, where he has become the official mouser.

He has some catching up to do. His predecessor in the role, Towser, caught 28,899 mice in her 24 years at the distillery and earned the Guiness World Record for best mouser.

There is actually no longer any need for Peat to catch mice, though he will have the run of the grounds to hunt. Instead he will be responsible for greeting the 100,000 visitors who tour the distillery every year and expect to meet the distillery cat.

Lesley Williamson, the business development manager at the Famous Grouse Experience, which is hosted at Glenturret, said: “The team are truly delighted to welcome Peat to our Glenturret Distillery family. The fluffy little bundle has already been charming his way into our visitors’ hearts this week, has already made himself at home in our new Tasting Bar and is showing signs of settling in nicely.”
