Clutha Bar tragedy survivor fined after being caught with stolen goods

A survivor of the Clutha Bar tragedy appeared in the dock, after he admitted resetting a haul of stolen goods that included a novelty pencil.

David Smith was among those who had been in the Glasgow bar on November 29 when a police helicopter crashed through the roof, killing 10 people.

Perth Sheriff Court heard how the 41-year-old has since been diagnosed with post-traumatic stress disorder and has not worked since.

Prior to that, he had been a delivery driver based in Cumbernauld and before Christmas in 2012, one of his jobs took him to a Perthshire farm.

Smith, of Rosegreen Crescent, Bellshill, had been picking up a festive food delivery near Carmichael Farm in Longforgan on December 13 2012.

He met a group of drivers and was offered a number of items worth £500, which included a computer, camera, Nintendo DSI consoles and DVDs and the cheap pencil.

The court heard how a subsequent police investigation led back to him and a camera was found in his home, resulting in Smith losing his job. He was fined £350.
