The son-in-law of businesswoman Ann Gloag thought he was living through his “last moments” as his home was robbed.

Sundeep Salins, 42, wept as he told the High Court in Edinburgh how he lived his “worst nightmare” as two men forced their way into his Perthshire home.

The architect told the court that he was threatened and told he would be stabbed if he interfered with therobbery, alleged to have taken place on January 19.

The court had earlier heard the two men stole approximately £200,000 of jewellery belonging to Mr Salins’ wife Sarah during the raid.

Another man, Brian Martin, 58,dramatically changed his plea to admit assault and robbery charges afterhearing Ms Gloag give evidence.

Mr Salins told the court he believed that one of the men responsible for the alleged attack was 41-year-oldChristopher McMultan, who he has known from church for eight years and whom he had given financial help.

Mr Salins was giving evidence on Thursday, the fifth day of proceedings againstMcMultan.

He told the court two men came into the house and one told him: “You had better not have pressed buttons or panic buttons.”

He said one of the men was actingvery aggressively and added: “Hewas shouting ‘don’t move or I will stab you’.”

A knife was being held against Ms Gloag’s throat, according to Mr Salins.

He added: “It’s your worst nightmare. It’s your own castle. It’s your own home. It’s everything you value.”

The court heard Mr Salins and his wife were tied up but managed to freethemselves after the two men left the house.

A firearms officer assigned to the investigation into the robbery, codenamed Operation Wasser, later recalled the moment Martin drove a car at him in a bid to evade justice.

PC Gavin Clephane, 40, said he had a Glock G36 carbine Taser drawn as part of a team which stopped Martin’s silver Nissan Qashqai on the A92 in Fife the day after the raid.

One police vehicle parked behind Martin’s vehicle and Mr Clephane’s car stopped in front of it.

Martin failed to obey commands from the police to step out of the car, reversed into a police car parked behind him and then drove at Mr Clephane who had to step out of the way to avoid being hit.

Mr Clephane said: “He would have struck me.”

Mr Clephane was shoutinginstructions to Martin and McMultan was in the passenger seat but the car moved away.

McMultan, whose address has been given as Perth Prison, denies assaulting and abducting Sundeep Salins, Sarah Gloag and two children at a house in Perthshire on January 19 with his “face masked and whilst holding a knife”.

It is claimed he seized Sarah Gloag on the body, presented a knife at her and threatened the family before robbing them of jewellery and £4,000 in cash.

Further charges state he reversed a vehicle he was in into a marked police vehicle on the A92 Dundee toGlenrothes road, close to the Logieturn-off, and drove towards PC Gavin Clephane.

It is also alleged he forced his way into another property in Muthill, Perthshire on January 18 and assaulted, detained and robbed David Gilfoyle and Joanne Miles.

Charges of attempting to defeat the ends of justice have also been libelled.

McMultan denies all charges and the trial continues.
