A plucky Perthshire schoolgirl is leading a two pronged fundraiser to support a national children’s charity.

Daisie Buchan, who has Crohn’s disease, started off with a 1.5 mile walk at the North Inch in Perth. Next weekend she will launch a family fun day at Burrelton football ground.

The six-year-old is raising cash for Fairy Box, which supports sick children in hospitals across Scotland by providing them with gifts to help cheer them up from a special gift box.

Daisie, who lives in Burrelton, is a regular visitor to Ninewells Hospital and has had several gifts from the Fairy Box to help her cope a little better with the upset of painful medical treatments.

The proceeds from the youngster’s hard work will contribute to the Enchanted Garden Party, a special event being organised by Fairy Box in September.

The party will give children who spend frequent spells in hospital, or who frequently attend Ninewells Hospital, a special family day out free from the worries of treatment.

Daisie’s mum Kelly said the charity has a profound impact on sick children.

She said: “The Fairy Box really helps with Daisie’s visits to hospital. These can be very distressing and painful, and having a gift at the end of her appointment really helps turn her experience into something positive.

“We attended the charity’s children’s party couple of years ago. It was fantastic to see Daisie just enjoy the day, not to have to think about medication and treatment and hospitals.

Rosie Butler, Fairy Box Trustee, is thrilled by Daisy’s support.

She said: “There is always something extra special about children doing something to help other children. Daisie is definitely a star.

“Our Enchanted Garden Party is free to every child and their family who come along on the day. It is a family orientated event which aims to let children enjoy quality family time together, something that illness may make difficult. The feel good factor of a Fairy Box party lasts for years with treasured happy memories and keepsakes.”
