Kris Miller, Courier, 09/11/13. Picture today at St Abb's Road, Arbroath where a burst water main caused damage to several properties. Scottish Water, Tayside Contracts and the Fire brigade were all at the scene to help with repairs and the clear up.
Two puppies were rescued from a Perth flat after apparently setting the kitchen on fire.
It’s believed the animals were attempting to reach food on top of the cooker in the Rose Terrace property and unwittingly managed to turn it on.
Firefighters were called to the otherwise unoccupied ground-floor property at around 1.45pm after a neighbour heard the fire alarm going off.
Crews entered the property and speedily extinguished the small fire, which had filled the kitchen with smoke.
They also rounded up the two canine occupants.
The firefighters looked after the young white “German shepherd-type” dogs in the rear of their fire engine until the owner could be contacted.
Thankfully the animals were none the worse for their ordeal and did not require any treatment.
Perth station watch manager Scott Beedie told The Courier: “There is a possibility that the dogs may have inadvertently caused the fire. There was food found on top of the cooker.
“The poor things were scared because of the type of equipment we had on and they were not familiar with us.
“We grabbed hold of them and once they were out in the fresh air they were fine.”
