Pair accused of forcing man to take the blame for Perth drug offence

Pair accused of forcing man to take the blame for Perth drug offence

Two men are due to stand trial accused of forcing a man to falsely admit to drug offences for which they were being charged.

Michael McLoughlin, 31, of Croxteth Road, Liverpool, and Craig Acton, 28, Calvers, Runcorn, are also accused of dealing cocaine in Perth that put a woman’s life in danger.

The pair were due to stand trial at Perth Sheriff Court this month.

The trial has been delayed, however, due to issues transferring one of the accused from an English prison.

Perth Sheriff Court heard that Acton is currently a prisoner in Preston.

The next available prisoner cross-border transfer, which are usually arranged on a fortnightly basis, will not be until next week.

The two men have been charged with, on May 28 2015 at Leonard Street, Perth, or elsewhere unknown, culpably and recklessly supplying a noxious substance, which they stated to be cocaine, to a woman.

After inviting her to ingest the substance it is claimed she then lost consciousness, all to her injury and to the danger of her life.

The two men face a further charge that, after having been arrested and charged with a contravention of the misuse of drugs act 1971, and being due to stand trial for the said offence, they threatened violence to Daniel Davies, assaulted him and punched him on the face to his injury.

It is claimed the men coerced him to attend at Perth police office, Barrack Street, and falsely represent to police officers that he was the person responsible for the aforementioned offence.

McLoughlin and Acton are being charged with attempting to have the drug proceedings against them discontinued and intending to pervert the course of justice.

The two men are accused of committing the offence between June 8 and June 20 2015 at Fifth Avenue, The Ford, Liverpool; Perth Police Station, Barrack Street; and elsewhere unknown.

A first diet has been set at Perth Sheriff Court for March 30.
