Ambitious plans have been lodged to turn a historic Blairgowrie building into a hotel.
Developers Roy Sim Properties want to transform the old granary on Lower Mill Street.
The company took over the C-listed property in 1983, saving it from demolition.
Now applications for listed building and planning consent have been submitted to Perth and Kinross Council to create the Ericht Hotel and Mill Yard establishment, including a restaurant, bar and six bedrooms.
A spokesman for Comrie-based architects Denholm Partnership which drew up the proposal, said: “Investment in this proposal poses a significant opportunity to enhance the Lower Mill Street and backland streetscape and spur regeneration, while also encouraging business growth, employment opportunities and economic development within Blairgowrie.”
The 18th Century mill was previously used as a coffee shop and art gallery until 2006.
Around 15 potential business tenants have since been approached about taking on the property, but no feasible interest was expressed.
Paperwork lodged with council planners states that the building’s character and setting is key to making the hotel plan a reality.
According to the company’s designs, a series of structural repairs need to be carried out immediately.
“Unable to find a tenant in the last nine years, this area of the building has been vacant, derelict and an eyesore to other businesses and visitors around the site,” the company’s spokesman said.
