Perth’s Karnival Klub nightclub shut down after little more than a month

Perth’s newest nightclub has closed down after police expressed concerns about the running of the venue.

The Karnival Klub in South Methven Street opened in early November but closed its doors for good on Thursday night.

Owned by the G1 Group, the former City/Sporters nightclub is to remain closed over Christmas and the New Year and until new tenants are identified, the council’s licensing board was assured on Friday morning.

The members of the licensing board had been due to hear an application for a review of the premises licence holder requested by Police Scotland chief constable Stephen House.

He had called for the review on various grounds including preventing crime and disorder, securing public safety and protecting children from harm.

The review request was withdrawn after G1 intimated that the tenancy agreement had been dissolved with Perth Leisure Ltd.

Messages posted onthe club’s Facebook pageon Friday afternoon after the licensing meeting caused confusion as they suggested the club would still be open over the weekend.

A post at around 12pm discussed a ‘Winter Wonderland Party’ event planned for Saturday night and featuring DJ Storm Queen.

Around 3pm a new photo gallery was posted, again with no hint that the club has closed.

The confusion spread to the club’s customers, with one posting: “Just heard you are closed tonight. Is it true?”

However, a Courier reporter passed the premises on Friday night and saw the club was in darkness and the car park was blocked off.

When contacted by The Courier, the club’s operators, Perth Leisure Ltd, declined to comment.
