Property development company ordered to pay workers over £36,000

Property development company ordered to pay workers over £36,000

A Perthshire company has been ordered to pay three employees a total of more than £36,000 because of unlawful deduction of wages and failure to reimburse expenses.

In House Property Investments Ltd of Snaigow, by Dunkeld, received the ruling from an employment tribunal in Dundee.

A Mr JC Kelly of Perth is to receive £13,333 as unlawful deduction from wages and £1,040 for failure to reimburse expenses.

Mr JA Stott of Dundee is also to receive £13,333 as unlawful deduction of wages, and a Mr SE Steven of Alyth was awarded £8,541 for the same reason.

The tribunal heard that the three men were employed by the small family business which carries out property development and general building work. They were last paid wages in January this year.

No steps were taken by the company to terminate their employment and the three men consider they are still in employment with the company.

Tribunal judge Ian McFatridge had no hesitation in accepting the three men’s evidence.

They were ready, willing and able to work and hoped the company would restart its activities at some stage.

The three men were in an unsatisfactory situation, and if their situation continued they could return to the tribunal to seek further payment.

In House Property Investments did not lodge a response to the tribunal after the claims were made.
