The Council’s ambition for Perth to be a dynamic small European city “where people want to be” has been outlined to an audience of 40 businesses and key public sector organisations.

Council leader Ian Miller addressed a Key Influencers’ Dinner at Huntingtower Hotel that was hosted by the Scottish Council for Development and Industry (SCDI) in partnership with the Scottish Cities Alliance (SCA).

He outlined the council’s vision of Perth as a successful city with a vibrant economy, a proud heritage and a leading centre for culture and sport. He also highlighted what is being done to achieve that vision.

The event was an opportunity to promote the work of the SCA, which is a collaboration between Scotland’s seven cities, the Scottish Government and SCDI. The alliance is working to promote economic growth in Scotland’s cities and create new jobs.

Mr Miller said: “Our vision is to develop the city of Perth as one of the most desirable places in Scotland in which to live, work, visit and invest. A place where people want to be.

“We already know that population growth will help to sustain and grow our economy and many of the actions proposed within our strategy are designed to capitalise on that economic opportunity.

“By demonstrating that Perth is open for business, the council can help to create the conditions that will attract more private sector investment into Perth.

“Our vision recognises the assets and resources that already exist within the city, which provide excellent opportunities and a basis to maximise growth for the benefit of the whole Perth and Kinross area. Perth is a successful city, playing an important regional and, increasingly, national role.

“Restoration of city status has provided us with a springboard to realise our ambition more quickly, particularly by working in alliance with the other Scottish cities.

“By consulting on, and delivering, the actions set out in our Perth City Plan, I believe we will achieve our vision of Perth as one of Scotland’s most desirable places to be.”
