A major extension to a Perth business is rapidly taking shape.
The steel framework of the extension to the Gillies home furnishings store has already been erected and gives a hint of the shape of things to come.
The extension is going up on the site of the former British Legion club in Skinnergate and the project is expected to be completed in the early autumn.
The store which is being extended was built in 2004 on the previous Camerons and Scandinavian Interiors site. That was already run by family-owned firm Gillies, which was established in Broughty Ferry in 1895.
The building was awarded a Perth Civic Trust Award in 2005 for outstanding contribution to the character and amenities of Perth.
Explaining the need for the extension so soon, managing director Ian Philp said: “Our Perth store has been a tremendous success. We purchase furniture, carpets and home furnishings from all over the world and really need additional space, enabling us to offer our customers an even larger choice.”
The extension will increase the Gillies showrooms by nearly 50%, including the creation of a new carpet and flooring department.
The extension will also allow the store to add a restaurant in the glass atrium overlooking the Perth Concert Hall.
