SKYE WAS no limit for a team of fit fundraisers as they took to the saddle in aid of Scotland’s Charity Air Ambulance (SCAA).
Staff and tenants at Algo Business Centre in Perth tried to cycle as far as they could in 20-minute relays.
Their goal was to cover a virtual 163 miles the equivalent distance from the Fair City to the Isle of Skye in eight hours.
Using two bikes, provided by Bannatyne’s gym, the determined cyclists smashed their target and raised more than £1,000 for the ambulance.
Nicola Stratford, from Algo, said she was “delighted” with the effort made by volunteers from Algo Design and Build, the Pension Specialist, Douglas Baillie, Computer Cable Networks, RSM Tenon, Forestry Commission Scotland and St James Place.
“A total of 345 miles was cycled between the two bikes over a period of eight hours,” she added.
“The hard work of our cyclists, support from tenants and donations from businesses, members of the public and tenants was overwhelming.”
The team at Algo was inspired to raise money for the SCAA through their work with trustee Mike Beale.
Mr Beale said: “Their support has been tremendous and we are extremely grateful to everyone involved.
“We need people the length and breadth of Scotland to come up with equally innovative fundraisers to keep this life-saving operation in the air.”
Launched in December last year, the SCAA will be the first in the country to be funded solely by donations from the community and will cost £1.5 -£1.7 million each year to maintain.
It will be based at Perth Airport and provide emergency services cover for the whole of Scotland.
