The chef of an Indian restaurant in Perth is hoping to be named the best in the country.
Sajawal Hussain, who has worked at the Manzil for 12 years, has been shortlisted in the chef of the year category at the Scottish Curry Awards.
Despite facing a nerve-wracking wait to see how he fares at the awards ceremony on Monday, it was business as usual for Sajawal this week as he showcased the skills that got him noticed.
He said, “I’m very excited about this and I think that I’ve got a good chance of winning. My family and friends are also proud of me and they are pleased that I’ve been nominated.”
Manzil manager Javed Lal also let slip that the York Place restaurant had been given a place in the top 10 list of Indian restaurants in Scotland and that they may be up for another accolade.
Sajawal, Javed and four colleagues will attend the ceremony at the Thistle Hotel in Glasgow.
