The miserable weather has claimed its second high-profile Perthshire casualty.
Rerth Racecourse’s eagerly anticipated Independence Day Race, due to take place on Wednesday, and the venue’s Armed Forces Race Day on Thursday were called off after an official inspection this morning.
Thousands were set to descend on the Scone site, with service personnel given free tickets to the latter event.
The news comes just days after the Scottish Game Fair at Scone Palace had to be cancelled because of heavy rain.
Racecourse manager Sam Morshead said cancellation would be a ”huge blow” for all involved and would have a negative impact on the local economy.
However, he reinforced the need to ensure the welfare of jockeys, animals and attendees and also the importance of safeguarding the water-logged racetrack.
Speaking before final confirmation of the call-off was released, he said: ”We can confirm there is a 99% chance the racing will be off but we are awaiting official confirmation from our clerk of the course and other stewards.
”It is very disappointing that we are having to make this decision both events were to be major sporting occasions.
”It is sad news for all who were hoping to take part and also all those who were looking forward to a great day out.
”We had horses coming over from Ireland and some of the top trainers from across the country.
”Corporate hospitality was fully booked and the stands were expected to be very busy.”
