A Perthshire printing company has closed its doors after 170 years.
The loss of Culross the Printers, of Queen Street, Coupar Angus, is understood to involve the loss of six jobs.
Perthshire North MSP John Swinney said: ”I am saddened by this loss to the East Perthshire economic community. This is obviously a very difficult time for management and employees of the firm as details of the business closure develop.
”Culross were a first class company to deal with, which is why I have always ensured my campaign materials were produced by them.
”I know first hand the excellent service that was provided by Culross and can only conclude that their absence in this market will be sorely felt by businesses locally.”
Michael Gallagher, honorary secretary of the local development trust, Forward Coupar Angus, said: ”Obviously it was a real shock for the town because they have been there so long.”
Mr Gallagher said he understood they had been looking for smaller premises at one point and everyone thought they would ”keep ticking over”.
The news comes hard on the heels of the decision by the Dutch company Vion to sell off the chicken processing plant in Coupar Angus.
