A Madras College teacher took a few thousand steps back in time during an exhausting bid to raise funds for a school trip to Namibia.
David Crone decked himself out in full Roman regalia for a gruelling 15-hour trek along the Antonine Wall.
Supported by fellow teacher Graham Reid and pupils Max Chase, Zak Maas and Tom Smout, he raised an impressive total of more than £1000.
Starting at Old Kilpatrick, Glasgow, the group walked 40 miles to Bo’ness near Falkirk.
“Where possible, we tried to walk along the remains of the wall itself and the best places for this were Seabegs wood near Bonnybridge and Rough Castle Roman fort and wall just south of the Falkirk Wheel,” Mr Crone said.
“We left Falkirk just as the sun was setting and finally arrived in Bo’ness under the cover of darkness at 10pm.”
Mr Crone said the whole day had represented an “exceptional” experience and thanked all those who provided sponsorship.
In July a group of 25 pupils and eight staff from Madras will travel to Namibia to teach in rural schools.
The group members have been working hard to raise funds for their trip and hope to buy equipment to leave in the schools.
Local companies who wish to support the endeavour should contact the school.
