Locals warned of alarm system testing at Grangemouth
ByRichard Rooney
Locals are being warned ahead of a planned test of Grangemouth petrochemical plant’s alarms.
The system is in place to warn local communities of incidents at the site, and is tested twice a year.
The alarms known as the major incident control committee (MICC) community warning system will be tested from 7pm on Wednesday.
The test will involve activating all eleven alarms simultaneously as an alert warning a two-tone undulating sound for five minutes.
This will be followed by a one minute interval and finally the all clear sound a single continuous tone for five minutes.
As well as confirming the equipment is working as expected, the tests are also used to ensure locals are familiar with the alarms and how they should react if they sound outside testing periods.
